Patrina received her Certificate of Clinical Competences in Speech Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She received her Masters of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Montclair State University. Patrina has experience working in both clinical and educational settings.
Patrina has had the opportunity to evaluate and treat students in preschool through eighth grade with a wide range of diagnoses, including receptive and expressive language delays, pragmatic language disorders, articulation disorders, fluency disorders, learning disabilities, down syndrome, and autistic spectrum disorder. In the school system, Patrina has enjoyed being a member of the child study team, participating in IEP meetings, and collaborating with teachers and other related professionals (occupational therapists, social workers etc). Patrina has helped students build self-awareness and self-advocacy skills in order to become more independent and confident in the classroom. In private practice, Patrina has treated both pediatric and adult clients with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. She loves collaborating with clients to help them reach their communication goals and have their voices heard.
As a mother of two young children, Patrina really enjoys collaborating with families to provide play-based, child-centered strategies that promote early speech and language development at home for children ages 0-3. As a graduate student, Patrina worked at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation outpatient. There she treated adults with various diagnoses including aphasia, dysphagia, dysarthria, apraxia of speech, head and neck cancer, dysphonia, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). She also assisted conducting, analyzing, and documenting Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies (VFSS). She is certified in Parkinson’s Voice Project’s SPEAK OUT! & LOUD Crowd programs and has professionally presented in-services on the benefits of voice therapy for patients with Parkison’s.
Patrina believes that tapping into each child’s interest and passion is important to keeping them motivated and engaged throughout their speech sessions.
Before becoming a speech language pathologist, Patrina received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. As a professional actor, Patrina has performed in 36 states across America. She has also taught acting, voice, and speech workshops in schools across the country. Patrina is always finding ways to bring music, theater, and storytelling into the speech room. She is so excited to bring her creativity and passion to Creative Speech Solutions.
